BCC students named to All-Massachusetts Academic Team

Karyn Hoffman, Transfer Counselor Ann Ibara, Tisha Williams
They were nominated by the College to compete for the honor. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.25 to compete in the program. Additionally, both Williams and Hoffman add campus involvement and contributions to the community to their already exceptional academic records.
The All-USA Academic Team is an international competition co-sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for community colleges; USA TODAY, and the American Association of Community Colleges. Each year the All-USA Academic Team Program selects 60 exceptional students from a pool of nominees provided by community college Presidents and CEOs across the U.S.
Williams, a resident of Fall River, devotes her time outside of the classroom to writing for the BCC student newspaper, serving on the African American History Month Committee at BCC, and working with Arts United, a local artists’ initiative founded by Williams. Also, Williams works two part-time jobs and volunteers extensively at the Lighthouse Ministries Church, where she assists in teaching Sunday school and has designed and implemented an after-school program for the children of Corky Row, a Fall River neighborhood.
Williams has also been recognized for her writing and performance abilities by receiving first place in 2006 and second place in 2007 in the College’s annual Rhoda Sheehan Poetry Contest. Additionally, in 2006 Williams placed first in Program Oral Interpretation and second in Poetry at the Phi Rho Pi Regional Forensics and Debate Competition. She is in the General Studies program.
