Position: P.T. Health Sciences - Fall 2009
Duties and Responsibilities:
Bristol Community College is seeking qualified applicants as part-time Instructors for the Fall 2009 to teach Health Science courses.
HCI 11 - Introduction to Healthcare Information Credit Course – 3 Credits Terms offered: Fall 2009
This course is the first in a series designed to instruct students in theory and principles of medical records technology. The course will include the history of medicine and hospitals, the organization and functions of the medical record department, the organization, content and format of medical record forms, and numbering and filing systems used. Three class hours a week.
HCI 33 - Retrieving and Reporting Medical Data Credit Course – 3 Credits Terms offered: Fall 2009
This course focuses on the statistical reports created by health information professionals; maintenance requirements of various indexes and registries; data abstracting; entry and retrieval techniques; and exploration of recent reimbursement schemes and their effect on the health information profession. Three class hours a week.
Prerequisite: HCI 22.
HCI 35 - Directed Clinical Practice I Credit Course – 4 Credits Terms offered: Fall 2009
This course provides students with the supervised practice of entry level acute and long term care inpatient and outpatient procedures within the Health Information Management profession. The students will spend seventy-five percent of the semester learning and practicing these functions, on site, in the HCI Laboratory and twenty-five percent of the semester applying these skills in the healthcare organizations affiliated with the HCI program at Bristol Community College. One class hour and nine hours of clinical placement a week (two days).
Prerequisite: HCI 22.
HCI 39 - International Classification of Disease Coding Credit Course – 3 Credits Terms offered: Fall 2009 Spring 2010
This course introduces the characteristics and conventions of the latest version of the International Classification of Disease as used in the United States. Students learn how to use alphabetic indexes and tabular lists to locate precise diagnosis codes to identify diseases, disorders, and conditions for patients in all healthcare settings. Students also learn how to provide procedure codes for hospital inpatients. Three hours of lecture per week.
Prerequisite: HCI 13, and BIO 15 or BIO 34. Pre- or co-requisite: HCI 37.

Required:
Current certification as CCS, RHIT, or RHIA, Bachelor’s degree minimum.Preferred:
Masters degree or enrolled in Masters degree program preferred, three or more years of professional experience and teaching experienced preferred.

Position Status: MCCC/MTA positions.
Salary: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience and consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
