Position: Dean of Business and Information Management
Duties and Responsibilities:
STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Bristol Community College seeks an energetic, committed and visionary leader for the position of Dean of Business and Information Management. The Dean provides strong collegial leadership to full-time and adjunct faculty and staff. S/he oversees all programs within the division at all campuses and satellites and fosters the development and assessment of curricula and programs to meet transfer and workforce needs. As a member of the Academic Vice President’s Council, s/he provides support to the Vice President for all programs, processes, and initiatives. The Dean is the first-line administrator responsible for implementing the managerial aspects of collective bargaining agreements.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide academic and administrative leadership for the Division; develop, recommend, and monitor the Division budget; administer applicable collective bargaining agreements; supervise course scheduling, faculty assignments, and instructional delivery for courses in the division at all campuses and satellites; make recommendations for appointment, promotion, tenure, reappointment, sabbatical leave, and other personnel actions within the Division; oversee, coordinate and implement evaluations of personnel within the division; hold regularly scheduled division meetings; provide academic orientation for new faculty members; promote and support the professional development of divisional faculty and staff; address faculty and staff concerns and grievances within the division; provide leadership in review, revision, and development of divisional curriculum at the course and program level; provide leadership in establishing and assessing course and program goals in relation to institutional goals; provide leadership in delivery of curriculum in a variety of locations, scheduling options, and formats with an appropriate range of teaching strategies and uses of instructional technology; provide leadership in the development of new programs as determined by transfer and workplace needs; oversight responsibility for program reviews for divisional academic programs; ensure that all programs have active and appropriately-constituted advisory boards that provide useful feedback; oversee degree programs coordinated by any faculty member within the division; hear and follow up on students’ concerns as related to divisional courses and personnel; work with other College areas to promote and increase awareness of and participation in divisional programs; prepare academic information for College publications such as the catalog and brochures; prepare monthly and annual reports and other documents as required by the Vice President of Academic Affairs; participate in the development of grants to support academic initiatives; serve on and chair committees as required by the Vice President of Academic Affairs; establish and maintain relationships with other institutions and industry to implement collaborative projects in the humanities and education; oversight of the Director and activities of the Academic Center for Entrepreneurship; and other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Qualifications:
Required:
Minimum of Master’s degree in a discipline taught within the Division or related discipline; college-level teaching experience in a discipline taught within the Division or related discipline; leadership experience in higher education administration as a department chair, program director or other administrative position; understanding of and commitment to the community college mission and role; excellent writing and oral communication skills; ability to use information technology effectively; knowledge of state-of-the-art teaching and learning techniques, including technological applications and distance learning; strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body; proven commitment to high academic standards and integrity.Preferred:
Substantial college-level teaching experience in a discipline taught within the division or related discipline, preferably in a community college setting; leadership experience in higher education administration as a department chair, program director or other administrative position, preferably at a community college; collective bargaining experience; workforce development/business and industry experience; grant writing experience; and demonstrated experience in assessment strategies.
Supervision Required: Reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs/Chief Academic Officer
Supervision Exercised: The Dean supervises and evaluates all faculty and staff assigned to the Division of Business and Information Management. The Departments of Business Administration, Office Administration, and Computer Information Systems are housed in the division. Degree and Certificate programs offered through the division include: Business Administration, with a host of options/concentrations to include – Accounting; Casino Operations & Gaming Services; General Management; Financial Services -- Banking, Financial Management, Real Estate and Insurance; Leisure Services Management -- Geotourism-Destination Planning, Sport Leisure Services Management, Tourism & Hospitality; Marketing Management; Retail Management; and Certificates offered in Accounting, e-commerce, Fashion Merchandising, Marketing, Retail Management, Entrepreneurial Management, Sport Management, and Tourism & Hospitality Services - Accounting, E-Commerce; Fashion Merchandising; marketing; Retail Management; Small Business & Entrepreneurial Management; and Tourism & Hospitality Services. The Academic Center for Entrepreneurship (ACE) is also housed within the Division.
Position Status: This is a 12-month, non-unit position with benefits.
Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience.
