Type of college
Bristol Community College is a two-year, comprehensive community college offering career and transfer programs of study that lead to associate degrees or certificates.
Programs offered
More than 90 programs of study lead to an associate degree in science, associate degree in arts, associate in applied science or a certificate.
Enrollment
During the Fall semester 2005, approximately 6,900 day and evening students were enrolled in credit-granting courses. Many thousands more enroll in noncredit leisure and business courses, adult literacy, and more.
Campus
One campus is located in suburban Fall River, at the north end of town. The campus sits conveniently located off routes 24 and 195, with the campus buildings clustered around a pond.
The College also operates a campus in downtown New Bedford and satellite campuses at the Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical High School in New Bedford, Attleboro High School in Attleboro and at Taunton High School in Taunton.
Costs
Tuition and fees for credit students are $123 per credit. Most courses earn 3 credits, and cost an average of $369*.
A full-time student (12 credits a semester) pays $2952* annually for tuition and fees.
*Some courses carry an instructional support fee which averages $27 per three credit course. This fee is for courses that carry extensive costs in terms of technology, human resources, or materials. These fees are listed with each individual credit course following the course description. A $30 per semester student support fee is charged to students enrolled in one or more credit courses to cover student support services including tutoring, library, student e-mail, internet access, health services, counseling and other services.
Financial Aid
Students have access to a full range of public and private scholarships, and grants. The Financial Aid Office helps students apply for aid.
In 2002-03, approximately 40% of BCC students received some sort of aid.
Governance
The College is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees appointed by the Governor of Massachusetts. One alumni trustee is elected by the Alumni Association for recommendation to the Governor; a student trustee is elected by the student body.
Alumni
The College has more than 25,000 alumni who have completed 30 credits or more. Ninety percent of those alumni live within 30 miles of campus. The Alumni Association is an active organization that offers services to alumni, including use of the College's Fitness Center, discounts, and special trips.
The BCC Foundation
The BCC Foundation is a private, nonprofit organization that raises funds for Bristol Community College. It offers scholarships to qualified students and grants to faculty and staff.
